Using recycled water
The Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008 regulates the supply of certain types of recycled water produced and supplied by a recycled water provider. The main aim of the provisions of the Act is to protect public health. The Act does not deal with the potential effects that using recycled water could have on land, soil or crops.
State Government agencies in Queensland with regulatory responsibilities for the use of recycled water include:
- Department of Justice and Attorney-General—using recycled water in the workplace
- Department of Local Government and Planning—domestic use of greywater
- Queensland Health—using recycled water in areas of food production
- Safe Food Queensland—using recycled water in production of eggs, dairy or beef.
