Strategy area
The region is located on the central coast of Queensland, extending west and covering an area of approximately 153,000 km2. The area extends from Nebo in the north, to Wandoan in the south. The coastal boundary of the region extends from south of Gladstone to north of Yeppoon and west to the gem fields area inland of Emerald. The region includes the major urban centres of Gladstone, Emerald, Biloela, Moranbah and Rockhampton. The area includes the following Council areas:
- Central Highlands Regional Council
- Isaac Regional Council
- Banana Shire Council
- Rockhampton Regional Council
- Northern part of Gladstone Regional Council
- Woorabinda Aboriginal Council
- Parts of Maranoa and Dalby Regional Councils
The Strategy area comprises the Fiztroy Basin and adjacent areas of the Capricorn Coast and part of the Gladstone Region. The strategy divides the area into the following main river systems:
- Isaac–Connors and Lower Mackenzie–Fitzroy rivers
- Dawson River below Taroom, and the Callide Valley
- Upper Dawson River above Taroom
- Boyne River, Calliope River and Baffle Creek
- Comet–Nogoa and Upper Mackenzie River
- Coastal streams to the north of the Lower Fitzroy river, including Water Park and Sandy Creek.
