Management of the Great Artesian Basin
The Great Artesian Basin (GAB) supports populations and industries throughout Queensland, and management of this vital natural resource is crucial to Queensland's prosperity.
GAB water resource planning
Water resource planning in the Basin is dealt with in the Water Resource (Great Artesian Basin) Plan 2006 and the GAB Resource Operations Plan, which provide for allocation and management of water in the area.
Release of unallocated water
The chief executive has decided to commence a process to release unallocated water from the GAB by tender, beginning 30 May 2013.
Bore rehabilitation
Two programs, the Great Artesian Basin Sustainability Initiative and the Blueprint for the Bush plan, provide financial assistance to landholders to rehabilitate bores and replace bore drains with piped systems.
