Location of Pumicestone River Basin within Queensland

The study area comprises the catchment of the Pumicestone region—a coastal catchment of approximately 1198 square kilometres. Stretching from Golden Beach, Caloundra to Deception Bay, it is bound by the D’Aguilar Range in the west and Bribie Island in the east.

One hundred and thirty-six survey sites were selected in 99 subsections, while there were no survey sites in eleven subsections. Three ‘photograph only’ sites were also selected. Eighteen percent of sites surveyed were tidal. The total length of major streams within the study area was 850 km, with the Caboolture River being the largest waterway.
