Cooper Creek
Location of Cooper Creek basin within Queensland
The study area, covering about 244 000 km2 within the borders of Queensland (the catchment extends into New South Wales), encompasses the catchment of the Thomson, Barcoo and Wilson rivers and Kyabra and Cooper creeks. The northern extent of the catchment is in the White Mountains area north-east of Hughenden. It discharges about 1000 km to the south-west, across the Queensland – South Australian border near Nappa Merrie. The Great Dividing Range, together with the Grey, Gowan and Warrego ranges, forms part of its northern and eastern boundaries.
In the 154 surveyed subsections identified, 273 sites were ‘full survey’ and 5 were ‘photograph only’.
