Conservation agreements
Under the State Rural Leasehold Land Strategy, leaseholders may be eligible to apply for a lease extension of up to 10 years if:
- the land is in good condition
- the leaseholder has negotiated an Indigenous access and use agreement for the land, if required
- the leaseholder has entered into a conservation agreement or covenant where the land is considered to support environmental values that merit such protection.
In Queensland, a Nature Refuge is the main mechanism for entering into a conservation agreement.
