Criteria
There are eight criteria that identify strategic cropping land (SCL)—they are defined in the Strategic Cropping Land Act 2011 (PDF)*. These criteria are designed for an on-ground property level assessment to confirm whether a particular site is or is not SCL.
A criteria and guidelines document is currently being finalised to reflect commencement of the legislation and will be available soon. Until then, please refer to the guidelines for applying the proposed criteria (released on 8 September 2011).
View the guidelines for applying the proposed criteria (PDF, 1.1M)*.
Cropping history (management area only)
In the management area, land will need to have a history of cropping, as well as meet the SCL criteria. The cropping history requirements are set out in the Strategic Cropping Land Act 2011 (PDF)*.

Public notification
SCL validation and exceptional circumstances applications must be publicly advertised so that interested parties can provide comment on technical matters associated with the application.
Public notification guidelines will be available soon.
Resource development assessment
Resource activities that cannot comply with the standard conditions code must apply for an SCL protection decision.
Protection decision assessment guidelines will be available soon.
