About QASSIT
The department is the lead Queensland Government agency for acid sulfate soils in the state. The Queensland Acid Sulfate Soils Investigation Team (QASSIT) has advised on many coastal development proposals and provided technical advice on management of acid sulfate soils for developments totalling in excess of $3 billion.
The team’s activities include:
- providing general and technical advice on acid sulfate soils
- mapping acid sulfate soils
- conducting an education program
- preparing technical guidelines on sampling, laboratory analysis and managing ASS
- providing advice on environmental codes of practice for industry
- planning and development assessment involving ASS
QASSIT has strong links with local government, state government departments, universities, CSIRO, interstate departments, community groups and international experts.
